PalatinAlps is student-led with the support of Wasteland Travel and is independent from the SU. It's been running for 17 years and is one of the largest student ski trips in the UK. We are committed to full transparency regarding how the trip is organised and run. To this end, we want to be open about the benefits received by our committee members. Our committee is a team of dedicated students who work tirelessly throughout the year to plan and execute the trip, and their roles are essential to making Palatinalps a success. In recognition of this effort, a maximum of six core committee members receive a complimentary spot on the trip. The tour operator also supplies the committee with merchandise such as clothing, goggles etc. some of which is used by the Committee, but much is also used as free gifts in raffles and competitions. A small financial contribution is also received from the tour operator to support the Durham University Ski and Snowboard Club directly. No committee member receives a salary or financial compensation beyond this. This approach allows us to deliver a high-quality trip that otherwise wouldn't be possible for Durham students.
